Leather Wallet and Washing Machine - Disaster
I washed my husband leather wallet in the washing machine by accident and I’m looking for advice on how to “repair” or “rejuvenate” it.
At the moment he’s using an old cloth wallet that he had before the kids gave him this nice leather on for Christmas. Now I think I’ve just ruined it… even though most of its contents came through in fairly good order.
But it’s not the contents that I’m worried about because they can be replaced, but it’s the leather wallet itself as it holds a good bit of sentimental value to my husband. The kids all chipped in to purchase this high-dollar billfold and now, thanks to me, it may just be ruined.

DEAR HOT WATER
My first advice would be to tell your husband to empty his own pockets before he decides that his britches need washing.
But after that, I think there are a couple of things that can be done to salvage the situation.
Once it is dry, rub on a good quality moisturizer on it, to soften it up if necessary. It doesn’t have to be a leather product. Any great skin product for human skin, will work great on cow skin.
Some people have reported good luck with ArmorAll leather treatment products. You can pick that up at your local automotive supply store.
Also - what ever you do - do not use any alcohol based products in your efforts to rejuvenate hubby’s leather wallet. That will cause more harm than good because the alcohol will cause the leather to dry and crack.
