Thanks Mother Nature!
Over the weekend we had a big family picnic. the BBQ had been fired up for hours and family and friends from far afield were gathered and having a great time. Until the wasps arrived.
These annoying insects got in the glasses, on the food, buzzed around people’s heads. The evening was pretty much ruined. We all had to cramp outselves inside for the remainder of the afternoon and evening.
Sunday morning after I was able to find where the wasps had come from. It was a fairly developed nest under the eves of our old garage that sits at the back of our property.
Before I go knocking the thing down with a broomstick and get zapped a few dozen times by the angry creatures, I thought I’d ask your expert advice on this potentially painful situation.

DEAR BUZZED
The best time to attempt wasps’ nest removal is after the sun has gone down for the day. It is essential that you wear protective clothing, making sure every inch of your body, especially your face, is covered. The reason for waiting for the evening is that wasps are drowsy at night but that does not mean that they won’t wake up pretty quickly once your wasp nest removal attempt begins.
You should not attempt wasp nest removal alone. At very least you will need a partner to carry a flashlight as you will need both hands free at all times. If the wasp nest is in an elevated place and you need to use a ladder to reach it you will need a spotter as well.
Ask your helper to hold a large box with a tightly-fitting lid underneath the wasp nest itself. Carefully cut the stem that is holding the nest in place very quickly with a long-handled pruning hook or other long cutting tool. Close the box as quickly as possible and seal it. The box should then be submerged in a bucket of water, or better still placed in a freezer, for a number of hours until all the wasps are dead.
